Introductory lecture in statistics, data handling in spreadsheets
Within this 16-hour course we cover the basics of statistical hypothesis testing using examples from veterinary clinical and observational studies. The course is a mix of short theory sessions and small group practicals done in the software package SPSS. Scripts to run the exercises in STATA & R can be made available on demand. Our target population are undergraduate and graduate students as well as interested researchers that need a refresher in statistical hypothesis testing in preparation for the analysis of their own research projects. During the course, part of the emphasis is placed on what to report from the statistical analysis in doctoral theses and research papers. Some basics comparable with the contents of an introductory class in medical statistics as well as handling small datasets in a spreadsheet are expected. The course is offered several times per year either in German or in English.
