At the Freie Universtität Berlin research receives, beside teaching and supervision, a high priority. In the course of this, smaller as well as large third party grant-aided research projects are transacted. In the criteria imposed by the sponsoring institutions the methodological foundation has strongly gained importance during the recent past. Even if the project itself does not contain an empirical study, often an empirical sustainability analysis is requested. The methodology of this analysis has to be outlined. This reflects the recent development in the requirements of renowned international journals. Therefore the usage of suitable statistical methods increases simultaneously the chances of third party funding and of successful publication of the results.

Ideally, such an initial support results in an enduring accompaniment of the project by an employee of fu:stat. In such cases, after a corporately assessing of the effort, a consideration in the budgeting of the third party grant is aimed for.
